It may be my anxious nature, but I keep wondering how what's going on in Egypt will affect the United States. I'm a history buff, but most of what I've learned about the country happened thousands of years ago (thank you, History Channel). So, I've decided to do a little digging to find out more about our ties to the most populated Arab country.
I found this interesting tidbit on the State Department website:
Who knew Egyptians bought so much of our wheat? It sounds like Egypt is an important player for our agricultural industry. And then there's the issue of the aid the U.S. provides to the Egyptian military, which now appears to be in charge of the country. Here's what the folks at the State Department have to say about that:
Whether we will maintain the relationships we had with Egypt before Mubarak's resignation remains to be seen.
