The National Guard has been busy gearing up for anticipated flooding this weekend in Louisiana as the swollen Mississippi River hits record levels. The Guard helped build a two-mile long levee near Morgan City made of Hesco baskets in just 48 hours - according to the Department of Defense.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports Army Chief of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey will inspect the Bonnet Carre Spillway and the Morganza Floodway on Saturday. The paper's website says:
The Louisiana National Guard is at the ready to help out with rescues in central and south Louisiana, according to an Army news release. The 2225th Multi-Role Bridge Company, 205th Engineer Battalion is equipped with 18 boats and almost four dozen Guardsmen.
