Khalid Sheikh Mohammed Faces New Charges for 9/11

Military prosecutors have re-filed charges against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. The BBC reports Mohammed and four other co-conspirators will be tried at Guantanamo Bay, where they are currently under lock and key.

According to the BBC:

This isn't the first time Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his alleged cronies have faced 9/11 charges, according to Politico. Military prosecutors previously charged them at Gitmo, but the Obama administration called for those charges to be dropped so the alleged terrorists could be tried in civilian court in New York City - near where the 9/11 attacks so infamously occurred. But Attorney General Eric Holder decided last month to let the military handle things after all.

According to the Fox News, the new charges are the first step in a lengthy legal process:

Fox News reports the Department of Defense classifies the charges against Mohammed and the four other defendants as capital charges, meaning they are all eligible for the death penalty.
