U.S. Army Bans Soldiers from Wearing Unusual Shoes

I know what you're thinking. Finally, someone in the government has come to his senses and banned Crocs. Unfortunately, no such luck. Instead, the Army is focusing its ban on another unusual type of footware - the FiveFinger, also called toe shoes.

Slate posted the official Army notice on its website banning the FiveFinger. While the notice doesn't list the FiveFinger by name, the Army is pretty clear about what type of shoes are being banned:

(The all capital letter format was part of the notice, not a sly attempt to get your attention.)

So, as Slate pointed out, there's actually a fan page for the FiveFinger called BirthdayShoes.com. This website also posted an article about the Army banning these shoes, and the comments of protest are rolling in. Someone named Josh tried to clarify the Army's policy:

I gotta say, these shoes remind me of wacky socks people used to wear in the 1970s, where every toe had its own little home and was a different color of the rainbow (see below).
