Female Marines at Camp Pendleton Have Special Mission

A group of female Marines at Camp Pendleton is preparing for a unique mission when they deploy to Afghanistan this spring. Members of the Marine Corps’ Female Engagement Team will be proactively trying to communicate with Afghan women who live in rural areas. According to the New York Times:

"Rural Afghan women, who meet at wells and pass news about the village, are often repositories of information about a district’s social fabric, power brokers and militants, all crucial data for American forces."

DVIDS reports the 48 members of the FET are currently preparing for their deployment by practicing different scenarios they might encounter when interacting with Afghan women.
