The crash of a NATO helicopter in Afghanistan's dangerous Helmand province Thursday has killed six U.S. Marines, according to the Associated Press.
The U.S. Command in Afghanistan has not officially released this information, but a senior U.S. defense official told the AP anonymously that the NATO troops who died in the crash were American.
Thursday's crash was the deadliest in Afghanistan since the August 6, 2011 Chinook crash that took the lives of 30 American servicemembers. That Chinook was shot down by Afghan insurgents
However, the anonymous defense official told the AP Thursday's crash did not appear to be caused by enemy fire.
