Camp Pendleton's Top General to Become Assistant to Defense Secretary

Marine Lt. Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, Camp Pendleton's top general, has been promoted to the new job of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's senior military assistant, according to the Department of Defense.

The DoD reports in addition to this promotion, President Obama also nominated Lt. Gen. Waldhauser for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general.

Waldhauser is currently the commanding general for I Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton. He also serves as commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command at Florida's MacDill Air Force Base.
