The USS San Diego is set to be commissioned during a special ceremony May 19th. But before then, the Navy will open up the ship for public tours. The tours will take place from May 15 to May 17, according to a Navy news release.
There are a few rules folks on the tour must follow:
- All tour participants will be subject to search. Fire arms, ammunition and all weapons will not be permitted.
- Anyone 18 years and older will be required to show a state or federal photo i.d.
- Anyone under the age of 18 will require an adult escort over the age of 18 with photo i.d.
- All items carried onboard will be the individual's responsibility. Large, heavy bags or luggage are highly discouraged, and will be searched prior to the tour.
- Once onboard, a tour is approximately one hour. Photography is authorized.
- The tour will include climbing and descending up to four flights of stairs. Comfortable clothing and flat, practical footwear is highly encouraged.
- As an active warship, the design is not able to accommodate wheelchairs, strollers, anyone unable to climb stairs under their own power, including very small children, the infirm and service animals. Personal pets will not be permitted.
