USS New York on 9/11
The Sailors and Marines who make up the crew of the USS New York know their ship means something special to the American public. After all, it was made with more than seven tons of salvaged steel from the World Trade Center.
In 2002, Former New York Governor George Pataki asked that the Navy commission a ship to be named in honor of New York:
"The USS New York will ensure that all New Yorkers and the world will never forget the evil attacks of September 11, and the courage and compassion New Yorkers showed in response to terror."
I've posted a video up top of the USS New York crew talking about the responsibility they feel working on a ship that carries such significance.
