Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Anchorage is slated to arrive in her new home port of Naval Base San Diego on Wednesday.
The PCU Anchorage is the Navy's newest amphibious ship. On the journey from Avondale, Louisiana to San Diego, the Anchorage transited the Panama Canal, visited Guantanamo Bay, and made a port stop in Manzanillo, Mexico.
Capt. Brian Quin said in a Navy news release that his Sailors left their families two years ago to join the ship's crew:
"Sailing Anchorage to San Diego culminates those years of hard work by both her shipbuilders and her crew. We are excited to be reunited with our families and look forward to continuing the process of preparing Anchorage for her maiden deployment."
While San Diego will be the ship's home port, the PCU Anchorage will be commissioned in her namesake city in May.
