The Federal Aviation Administration says it was a military plane. But folks in Amherst, Massachusetts who saw a mysterious flying object soaring silently in the sky earlier this month aren't so sure.
The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports there were numerous reports of something strange in the sky the evening of January 8:
Residents in the Amherst and Pelham area reported that between 5:45 and 6:30 p.m. a triangular or diamond-shaped aircraft — about the size of two or three cars, by one account — appeared to travel silently, slowly and unusually low over the area.
An FAA spokesman told the newspaper that a C-5 cargo plane had been flying in the area, practicing approaches to nearby Westover Air Reserve Base.
So mystery solved, right?
Maybe not. Base spokesman Lt. Col. James Bishop told the Gazette the C-5 doesn't match the description of what people say they saw:
“There’s just no mistaking that. It’s quite a loud sound and quite a big aircraft.”
What do YOU think it was?
