A Camp Pendleton Marine plummeted to his death yesterday in Perris during a skydiving accident.
The Marine was taking part in a training exercise, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Several witnesses of the accident told Los Angeles television station KTLA that the Marine's parachute did not open.
Eric Kazakoff of Western Construction Auctions told the Riverside Press-Enterprise that the Marine landed in his company's 10-acre storage yard, which is located next to Perris Valley Skydiving:
“It was awful. The parachute didn’t open …There was not a lot anybody could do.”
The Marine Corps has not yet released the name of the fallen Marine, pending notification of his family.
