The Navy is distributing an estimated 35,000 free $10 phone cards to sailors and Marines deployed this holiday season.
The Navy Exchange Service Command expects sailors and Marines aboard 40 ships and submarines will received the cards.
Thomas Harris of the NEXCOM Afloat Personal Telecommunications Service Program told Navy Exchange Service Command Public Affairs:
“This is just one small way that we can thank our service members for their dedicated service to our country. We hope this phone card will bring them closer to their families and friends during the holiday season.”
Sailors and Marines can use the $10 AT&T prepaid phone cards with the Afloat Personal Telecommunications Service system, their ship’s Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) system, or on dry land - as long as AT&T provides service there.
According to the Navy, sailors and Marines on the following ships will receive free phone cards (San Diego-based ships are highlighted in bold type):
USS Bainbridge, USS Bulkeley, USS Carney, USS Gettysburg, USS Mason, USS Monterey, USS Nitze, USS Ramage, USS San Jacinto, USS Simpson, USS Stout, USS The Sullivans, USS Truman, USS Mount Whitney, USS Boxer, USS Cowpens, USS Freedom, USS Harpers Ferry, USS Hopper, USS New Orleans, USS Rentz, USS Nimitz, USS City of Corpus Christi, USS Houston, USS North Carolina, USS Santa Fe, USS Sea Wolf, USS Tucson, USS Curtis Wilbur, USS Fitzgerald, USS George Washington, USS John S.
