A brush fire burning in the northern reaches of Camp Pendleton was 96 percent contained Tuesday morning.
About 1,245 open acres have been blackened since the blaze, dubbed the Roblar Fire, ignited off Roblar and Case Springs roads Thursday afternoon, according to military and state fire officials. No structures have been threatened.
The cause of the Roblar Fire was not immediately clear, though it is not uncommon for fires to be sparked by weapons training on the base.
Camp Pendleton officials said that as crews close in on fully containing the Roblar Fire, they will be assisting their counterparts working to extinguish the so-called Sand Fire in Los Angeles County, which has charred more than 37,000 acres, destroyed at least 18 homes and possibly claimed a life.
