If you want a say in where a high speed rail line would come through San Diego, you’d better speak up now. Planners are already beginning to look at routes.
Right now, the California High Speed Rail Authority is proposing the route of the train come down Interstate 15 to Escondido. From there it would shoot over to University City and follow Interstate 5 to the airport and into downtown San Diego. But that’s just one of the proposed routes. State Senator Christine Kehoe says the county should have more involvement in the final choice.
“We’d like to see the High Speed Rail Authority do a thorough review of what’s needed in San Diego. Lay out the options and allow San Diegans to have a role in making the final decision,” she says.
Kehoe says she doesn’t have a preferred route yet. But she says it's time for local governments to create formal positions to bring to the Rail Authority. Representatives from the rail authority will make a presentation on proposed routes tonight at Forum Hall in University Towne Center.
