More than 200 home care providers and recipients of In Home Supportive Services rallied outside the capitol Thursday. They are asking Governor Jerry Brown to reconsider his proposed cuts to the program. The governor’s budget includes trimming about 500 million dollars from IHSS.
Democratic State Senator Juan Vargas said lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are opposed to these cuts, so they are going to work in a bipartisan way to save this program.
“Most importantly,” Vargas said, they are going to work, “to save the people from being kicked out of their houses unfortunately thrown into places where their lives will probably be shortened.”
Vargas said IHSS services are less expensive than placing people in nursing homes.
Brown’s budget plan includes cuts from nearly every department totaling more than 12 billion dollars.
