San Diego County Supervisor Dave Roberts has canceled a scheduled Friday appearance at an Oceanside community college, the day after a second claim was filed against the county by one of his former employees.

Roberts was to make a 45-minute presentation at MiracCosta College, billed as being a lecture on county programs and his own initiatives.

Roberts has come under scrutiny for allegations from former members of his staff.

Earlier this month, Diane Porter, a former aide who handled scheduling for Roberts, filed a legal claim accusing Roberts of misusing taxpayer funds, inappropriately delegating campaign responsibilities to government employees and maintaining an inappropriate relationship with an employee.

The San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday reported Glynnis Vaughan, who had been Roberts’ chief of staff, filed a claim seeking $475,000 or more from the county, making accusations similar to Porter's.

At a news conference Thursday, Roberts’ newly hired spokesman, Gary Gartner, denied the allegations calling them “false and defamatory.” Gartner said Roberts would be speaking to the media soon, “because he would like to."

Friday morning MiraCosta College released a cancellation note from the supervisor:

“Due to a scheduling conflict, Supervisor Dave Roberts regrets that he must postpone his appearance at today’s LIFE lecture. The Supervisor appreciates your interest in the County of San Diego’s programs and services and hopes to reschedule his appearance in the near future. He apologizes for any inconvenience.”
