A fire that ripped through a San Diego elementary school late Monday night is the sixth arson fire in the University Heights neighborhood in recent weeks.
The incident at Alice Birney Elementary caused about $600,000 in damage to the gym, cafeteria and the school's office.
Arson investigators have been busy in the neighborhood since mid-December.
Just a few blocks away from the school, the Jehovah's Witness Hall was set on fire three times over the last three weeks. There was also a failed attempt at the same location.
Maurice Luque, Spokesperson for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, said it's too early to determine if the fires are connected.
"We have no reason at this point to believe that that's the case or that it isn't the case, it's a possibility of course but there's nothing tying or linking any of those fires together," he said.
There was also an arson fire at a nearby apartment complex last week. That fire torched two cars and no injuries were reported.
Fire officials also said an arsonists is to blame for a fire at a two-story apartment complex off Campus Avenue on New Year's Eve. Three people suffered smoke inhalation in that incident.
There are separate rewards being offered for anyone with information leading to an arrest.
The San Diego-Fire Rescue Department is urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
