Rockslide Closes PCH In Orange County

DANA POINT, Calif. — The northbound and southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County have been closed by a rockslide.

Sheriff's officials say two large boulders and other debris fell into lanes just before 4 a.m. near the intersection of Dana Point Harbor Drive.

City crews are on the scene trying to determine how to move the giant rocks, one of which deputies estimate is about 10 feet by 20 feet.

A one mile stretch of PCH is closed.

Lt. Jeff Hallock says the lanes are expected to reopen in a few hours.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
