A former San Diego police officer convicted of sexually assaulting women while on duty is seeking a new trial.
Attorneys for Anthony Arevlos will make the request at an evidentiary hearing Friday morning, KPBS media partner 10 News reports.
In 2011, then-Officer Arevalos was arrested on suspicion of forcibly fondling a woman he'd pulled over in the Gaslamp District.
More victims came forward, and Arevalos ultimately was convicted of sexually assaulting five women during traffic stops. The ex-cop was sentenced to almost nine years in prison.
So far, the city has agreed to pay out $2.3 million dollars to settle lawsuits filed by Arevalos' victims.
Another San Diego police officer may also face criminal charges for groping women while on duty.
