Two firefighters were injured in an apparent stabbing attack Wednesday afternoon during a medical-aid call in the East Village.

A man pulled a knife or similar weapon and assaulted the emergency personnel shortly before 4 p.m. as they were trying to treat him for some sort of ailment near Park Boulevard and Market Street, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

An ambulance crew took the firefighters to a hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.
