A driver was killed when his SUV became wedged underneath a tractor-trailer after running a red light at an intersection near Mission Trails Regional Park Wednesday morning.
The victim's dark blue SUV came off state Route 52 at a high rate of speed, blew through the red light at the intersection with Mast Boulevard and collided with an eastbound big rig around 5:15 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and San Diego police.
The wreckage of the SUV was stuck underneath the trailer, and the driver was trapped inside.
The SUV driver died from his injuries, but no one else was hurt, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said.
The collision prompted authorities to temporarily close the offramps to Mast Boulevard from both sides of the highway.
