The California Highway Patrolarrested 20 motorists on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in the San Diego area over the New Year's holiday, the agency reported Thursday.
No traffic fatalities occurred during the CHP's annual year-end "maximum enforcement" period, which ran from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.
Statewide, 14 people lost their lives to road accidents over the 30-hour span and 457 drivers were jailed on suspicion of DUI offenses, according to the CHP, which investigates crashes on freeways and on all streets in unincorporated areas.
