Bloody Sunday

Most Americans probably know something about Bloody Sunday--getting their information from either the news media or from U2's popular song--but the details are probably fuzzy. Paul Greengrass' film "Bloody Sunday" (opening October 2) tries to bring those details into focus.

Senior Field Correspondent Mónica Ortiz Uribe (Las Cruces) is a native of El Paso, Texas, where she recently worked as a freelance reporter. Her work has aired on NPR, Public Radio International and Radio Bilingue. Most of her stories examined the effects of drug-related violence across the border in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Previously, she worked as a reporter for the Waco Tribune Herald in Waco, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a degree in history.

Brendan Price attends San Diego State University where he is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Spanish and a minor in History. He has earned certificates in translative studies and a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). He is also an active member of KCR, the student-run radio station at San Diego State University. Price grew up here in East County San Diego and graduated from El Capitan High School. He enjoys running and basketball.

Tarryn Mento served as KPBS' health reporter. She had previously worked as the multimedia producer for MetroFocus at WNET in New York City. She was also a Pulliam Fellow at the Arizona Republic. Tarryn has reported from three countries and in two languages. Her work has been published by The Washington Post, the Center for Public Integrity’s iWatch News, and El Nuevo Herald. She completed her master's degree at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, where she was named a Carnegie-Knight News 21 Fellow. A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Tarryn completed her undergraduate education in journalism at SUNY-Albany.

Jill Replogle is a Fronteras reporter in San Diego. She has been a journalist for more than 10 years, reporting from Central America, Mexico, and California. She has produced radio and video features for PRI's The World, KALW (San Francisco), Current TV, and the Video Journalism Movement. Her print stories have been published in The Miami Herald, Time.com, The Christian Science Monitor and the San Francisco Chronicle, as well as in Guatemalan newspapers SigloXXI, ElPeriodico and Inforpress Centroamericana. Jill has a bachelor's degree in geography from the University of Colorado Boulder and a master's degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. She's covered everything from local and international politics, to crime and drug violence, to environmental and public health issues. When she's not on the job, you might find her biking, scrambling up a rock somewhere, or otherwise exploring the outdoors.

When an intern in the KPBS Newsroom, Sasha wrote radio spots and adapted them into web articles. She recently relocated to San Diego from the Bay Area. She studied media theory at UC Berkeley and received her master’s in broadcasting from San Francisco State University. While at SF State, she taught studio production to undergraduate students in the broadcasting program. Sasha is passionate about producing high quality media that educates and inspires, with a particular interest in issues of sustainability. Sasha has worked in radio and television as well as the government and non-profit sectors. She recently finished production on “Waterways,” a documentary film that follows the path of water from the mountains to the faucet. She spent the summer of 2010 in El Salvador shooting and editing a promotional video for a non-profit. When not working, Sasha enjoys hiking, dancing, cooking and gardening.

Megan Burks is the education reporter at KPBS. She reports on teaching and learning from infancy into adulthood, the achievement gap, and school governance. Before tackling the education beat, Megan helped launch Speak City Heights, a media collaborative covering community health in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego. As Speak City Heights reporter for KPBS and Voice of San Diego, Megan's work pushed reform in the San Diego Police Department and taxi industry. She was awarded the San Diego County Taxpayers Association's 2015 Media Watchdog Award for her look at dangerous housing conditions for low-income tenants. Megan has also been recognized by the San Diego Human Relations Commission and Society of Professional Journalists San Diego Pro Chapter for bringing underrepresented voices to radio and television. Megan was born and raised in El Cajon, and graduated from San Diego State University, where she studied journalism and sociology. Her thesis looked at the media’s effects on attitudes toward immigrants. She interned with San Diego CityBeat and KPBS’ Envision San Diego.
