Join in the thrill of fast-paced bicycle racing by pro racers, top-level amateurs and a fun children's cycling event at the Barrio Logan Grand Prix, one of Southern California's largest cycling events. The race is open to men and women of all ages, from professional and Olympic level cyclists to first-time racers. BLGP is the proud host of the SCNCA Junior Criterium Championships! The 0.8-mile race course takes place in historic downtown Barrio Logan and will begin and end on Newton Avenue across from Perkins Elementary School. Spectators will have access to numerous views of the racers along city streets in the Barrio Logan area throughout the day. There will also be a free Kids Zone for youth participants offering free helmets and an opportunity to participate in a bicycle safety rodeo. Fedella Lizeth is known for her emotionally raw, personal, and texturally rich work. Her upcoming exhibition is a visual meditation on healing, identity, and transformation—created through experimentation with softness, sculptural forms, and nontraditional materials. Her work speaks in layers: some fragile, some bold, all deeply human. This event also marks the public launch of Subcultura Curation, a community-powered arts initiative founded by curator Bucky Montero. Built from years of organizing in alternative art spaces across Barrio Logan, Subcultura exists to uplift bold, underrepresented voices through exhibitions, residencies, archives, and storytelling. The residency and exhibition take place inside Studio Culture, a new creative hub home to Cult Studios—a growing force in San Diego’s arts and design community. Learn to Warp & Weave! May 25 or July 19, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (with a 1 hour lunch break) Learn the ancient fiber craft of weaving your own fabric using a Rigid Heddle Loom and natural fibers. In her hands-on workshop, Weaver & Dyer Jeanine Ertl will teach you everything you need to know to warp and weave on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who’s been curious about weaving beyond a lap loom and wants to learn the warping and weaving processes. We’ll dive into fiber & fabric and demystify the process of getting set up (otherwise known as warping a loom), weaving, and finally, finishing and removing a woven fiber good from the loom! And, you’ll go home with handwoven fabric in-hand. Length of the final piece will depend on the individual’s own pace. In this workshop you’ll learn how: a rigid heddle loom works; to plan a textile (e.g. sett, basic pattern & choosing fiber, etc.); to warp a rigid heddle; to weave; to remove your handwoven; and to finish a textile. All materials to warp & weave a sample included for use. If you’re interested in learning to warp and weave on your own rigid heddle loom, please email Instructor Jeanine Ertl advance.
