Spreckels Organ Society, a non-profit organization curating concerts and performances in the heart of Balboa Park, announces its 35th annual San Diego International Summer Organ Festival line-up. The Spreckels Organ Society brings these special 90-minute concerts to the Pavilion for free on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m., starting June 26 through Sept. 4. From a Brass Octet and Organ to a Not-So-Silent Movie Night; from a Renaissance Stereophonic Stravaganza inspired by St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice to the greatest hits of Classic Rock performed by the high-energy Pavilion Rock Band, there is something for every music lover. Reprise of "Hereville" Book by Robby Sandler with Jess Kaufman Music by Lizzie Hagstedt Lyrics by Robby Sandler, based on the Hereville graphic novels by Barry Deutsch. This family friendly musical is about an Orthodox Jewish girl who hasn't quite figured out how to live with her stepmother ... or without her mama. When she meets a witch outside of town, she unleashes a series of events that can only be solved by someone exactly like her (or so she hopes!). The Whole Megillah celebrates new plays that are “unapologetically” Jewish and express the entire gamut of Jewish ideas, affiliations, and experiences. The documentary marks the 13th collaboration between Ennio Morricone, one of the most celebrated film composer of all times, and his long-time friend Giuseppe Tornatore, for whom he has scored most of his films, including Cinema Paradiso. In addition to interviews with filmmakers and musicians, including Bernardo Bertolucci, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood and Bruce Springsteen, the film features fragments of Morricone’s private life, recordings from his concert tours, clips of films he has scored and never-before-seen archival footage. "Unsung Heroes", is a short story highlighting black veterans tremendous contributions to the United States Armed Forces. Their stories and experiences often go unrecognized and undocumented. Richard Woods is an African American veteran, who experienced racism and segregation growing up in a small town in Texas. Only to be drafted into the Armed Forces to experience the same thing, on a much deeper level. Despite those challenges, Richard vowed to serve his country as a Marine and fight in the Vietnam war. Peter Okojie and his wife Teanna Woods Okojie are passionate filmmakers, documenting people of color, and the black community. This is an ongoing series of short form documentary stories centered around black veterans and other inspiring stories of Africans & African Americans. We want to serve as an outlet to highlighting their contributions, efforts and spotlighting the values they add to our society.
