  • This unique summer camp is an opportunity for kids ages 4-18 with physical impairments such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and spinal cord injuries to participate in approximately 15 different sport rotations over 5 days. Volunteers and counselors who share a passion for adaptive sports help athletes learn the fundamentals of various games and activities. Athletes are grouped by age and ability and develop important skills to help them stay active and healthy. Camp promotes positive self-esteem, leadership skills, independence and most importantly, opens campers up to a whole new world of possibilities!   • From the organizers: Come see this special Halloween concert and silent movie with the “Phantom of the Opera,” accompanied by the Spreckels Pipe Organ, the largest open air musical instrument in the world! The event will begin with a pre-concert talk with the artists at 5:30 p.m., along with a silent auction and games. At 6:00 p.m., Victoria Robertson, soprano, and Bernardo Bermúdez, tenor, will sing excerpts from the popular Broadway show, “Phantom of the Opera.” At 6:30 p.m., the 1925 “Phantom of the Opera” silent movie will be portrayed on a big screen atop the Spreckels Organ Pavilion stage, accompanied by Mark Herman, organist.   • The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) will hold a free virtual educational conference on Tuesday, November 15 at 10:00 a.m. PST that will provide California residents with information about Alzheimer’s disease, brain health, caregiving, care planning, support services and more. A Q&A will follow each session in which attendees can ask the experts questions. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with one other. There will also be free memory screenings conducted throughout the day. The free educational conference will be held virtually over the Internet and is open to everyone.
