But throughout the history of art one of the consistent inspirations is ‘travel’ - the location and surroundings in which the artists find themselves. Under the leadership of Artistic Director RC Haus and Executive Director Bob Lehman, the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus is celebrating its 34th anniversary of changing lives one voice at a time. With more than 300 members, it is one of the largest gay choruses in the world and has sung at locations including the White House, the Super Bowl and Lincoln Center. The Chorus performs in front of tens of thousands of San Diegans each year including sold-out shows at the historic Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego. The group’s official mission is to create a positive musical experience through exciting performances that engage audiences, build community support and provide a dynamic force for social change. Cindy Lee Berryhill is a California singer, songwriter, and co-founder of the New York Antifolk movement. She has released seven albums since her debut on Rhino Records in 1987. Her most recent, The Adventurist, was released on Omnivore in 2017. Van Dyke Parks says “Cindy Lee’s capacity as a lyricist is unique, her insights and raw ability to articulate the human dilemma, is peerless. She deserves a berth in any Hall of Fame, for the humanities she brings to the usual vanities of songwriting.” Kimm Rogers is an expert at wordplay and her lyrics often contain meaningful twists and double entendres that aren’t apparent at first listen. Whether it’s a ballad, a love song, or rocking on the edge, finding a soft spot in a hard world is what Kimm does best. In that way, her songs are a true reflection of her generous spirit as they keep giving you little gifts every time you hear them. It’s rare to find writer who that does it as well as she does. She is one-of-a-kind and a real musical treasure. Pilgrim Church in Carlsbad is an open and affirming community within the United Church of Christ with a progressive theology, a commitment to spiritual growth, and passion for social justice. This season’s “Women in Music Festival” focuses on the role women have had on both music composition and performance in our history. The next performers are the talented Piano & Organ Duo Mus-Art, Maria Teresa Sierra and Raúl Prieto Ramirez. Spanish piano virtuoso from Barcelona with several competition prizes, pianist Maria Teresa Sierra will join San Diego Civic Organist Raúl Prieto Ramirez for a concert widely demanded. The piano and organ duo will join forces presenting widely popular pieces like Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Beethoven’s piano Concerto No.5 “The Emperor”. The concert features a display of virtuosity combining the power of the Spreckels Organ and the delicacy of a concert piano, provided by Steinway Piano Gallery of San Diego.
