There is one challenging climb up the bay side of Point Loma to the rest stop at the Cabrillo National Monument. Metric Century Ride: This is a challenging 62 mile on-street exclusive route through San Diego. The route includes several Cat 5 climbs with a total ascent of 3030 ft. The ride traverses exclusive routes through Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument, Mission Bay, Rose Canyon, UTC, UCSD, and Del Mar VIP Ride: Open to any rider who wants to contribute more for pancreatic cancer research and have an enhanced ride experience. We missed riding with Jim and decided in 2013 to organize Ride the Point – a ride dedicated to Jim and his passion for life. This year we are celebrating our 9th Annual Ride the Point and with your support we have donated over $250,000 to UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center for pancreatic cancer research. Nashville-based group COIN is coming to San Diego for their brand new Uncanny Valley Tour! The experience of seeing COIN, an electro-rock quartet out of Nashville, is like a shot of B12 for the soul and body, with one guarantee: You will dance like a maniac. On stage, the energy is frenetic, and the dance party is contagious. Comprised of lead vocalist Chase Lawrence, drummer Ryan Winnen and lead guitarist Joe Memmel, the band's New Wave-indebted pop has more in common with Passion Pit and Foster the People than the country-twang of their Nashville peers. Chase Lawrence, with long curly locks, works the crowd with a swagger reminiscent of Michael Hutchence, while the rhythm section keeps a tight, synth-laden groove. In 2016, breakout single "Talk Too Much" became the band's live centerpiece, winning over crowds across the country. During their fabled showcase at LA's historic Troubadour in 2017, COIN whipped fans into a frenzy, getting even the most mellow hipsters on the dance floor. Using humor and relatable stories, Pat shares how anyone with passion for a cause can learn to successfully pass and change laws using the time-tested tools in "The Empowered Citizens Guide: 10 Steps to Passing a Law that Matters to You" (Oxford University Press). By the end of the evening, you’ll be convinced that you can make change in your community using the book as your guide! One of the nation’s leading experts on citizen lobbying campaigns, Pat has made it her mission to teach people – in a funny and engaging way – how to make change through the legislative process. A long-time nonprofit leader and self-described “recovering academic”, she is also author of The Lobbying Strategy Handbook, second edition (Oxford) and Cases in Nonprofit Management (SAGE). Help document California's incredible coastal biodiversity and take part in this year's Snapshot Cal Coast with a BioBlitz! Library staff will teach you how to use iNaturalist to make observations of the plants and animals you see at the beach. Snapshot Cal Coast is an annual California statewide community science effort that encourages people to make and share observations of plants, animals, and seaweeds along the California coast using the iNaturalist app. Led by the California Academy of Sciences with support from the California Ocean Protection Council, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the MPA (Marine Protected Area) Collaborative Network, and an array of other partners, we are creating a valuable snapshot in time of where species are located along our coast. Make sure to download the free iNaturalist app and bring your device to participate! Look for the Library's green pop-up near the main lifeguard tower. We will have specimens from the San Diego Natural History Museum for folks to view!

This year's San Diego International Organ Festival will showcase the role of women in music. Performances are every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, from June 27 through Sept. 5, 2022. All Spreckels Organ Pavilion concerts are free and open to the public. After two prelude performances, June 27 and July 4, the festival will officially kick off on Monday, Jul. 11 with organist Nicole Keller. From the organizers: This season’s “Women in Music Festival” focuses on the role women have had on both music composition and performance in our history. The Chicago Crusader calls Nicole Keller “…an aggressive player with outstanding technique and fine musical sensibilities…” Keller brings a breadth of musical experience as a concert artist. After her successful performance at the National Festival of the American Guild of Organists in 2021, she will now offer her first concert at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa.
