Give Blood, Get Rugby! Did you know that sports fans and blood donors aren’t the only ones passionate about helping their communities? The San Diego Blood Bank and the San Diego Legion are no different: the two teams joined forces in 2020 and have been successful in promoting blood donations within the community. Blood is essential to help individuals survive surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. This lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation. The need for blood is constant. San Diego Legion will be hosting a mobile blood drive at SD Legion Headquarters on January 9th, 2022 from 10AM-3PM. Come out with our core volunteer team to assist with River Clean-Ups! If you don't mind getting dirty and doing some trail blazing then this may be the perfect fit for you. Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our River. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, create unsightly piles in our parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and could be washed out into our ocean and beaches! This month's clean-up is uniquely focused on cleaning up from the previous day's festivities. Unfortunately, 4th of July celebrations can leave behind large amounts of trash and litter. Singer-songwriter Brett Eldredge is coming to San Diego for his brand new Songs About You Tour! Brett Eldredge is best known as an American country music singer/songwriter, and he has been a major front-runner and influencer in the American country music scene since the early 2010s. He won New Artist of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards in 2014, and in 2016, he was picked to be one of 30 artists to celebrate the CMA Awards 50-year anniversary. The 30 selected artists performed a mashup track of some of country's greatest hits, including "On the Road Again," "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and "I Will Always Love You." From the organizers: The Sukkot holiday is an ancient Jewish harvest festival reflecting themes of hospitality and the welcoming of strangers; like all the farm’s events, the festival will welcome people of all backgrounds. The community is invited to meet under the sukkah (temporary shelter) for a day filled with live music, food, and activities for all ages. Festivities include farm tours, a Kid Zone, hand-crafted goods made by local Jewish artists, live entertainment, as well as food and drink vendor options for purchase. RSVP here. NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER The 2022 San Diego Festival of the Arts will return to San Diego Surf Sports Park in North San Diego on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11. The festival moved permanently to the San Diego Surf Sports Park last year and has proved to be extremely successful. Guests and artists love its easy freeway access and ample convenient parking. Residents are encouraged to come out and enjoy this prestigious juried festival, now in its 36th year. This age 21 and up event showcases stunning works of painting, sculpture, photography, glass, jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber and mixed media from more than 150 world renowned artists. Ticket sales (starting at $13), a silent auction and wine and beer sales all benefit local adaptive sports programs supporting thousands of San Diegans with disabilities. The San Diego Festival of the Arts Foundation, Inc., through this primary fundraiser, has raised more than $2.7 million for this cause since 1987.
