  • Soulful Screenwriting helps you explore the soul of a screenplay, and yourself as a writer. This is an empowering interactive workshop, where we explore key dramatic narrative storytelling principles, as well as common pitfalls to avoid to make your screenplay or dramatic story more effective. Soulful Screenwriting is not just for screenwriters. Much of what we discuss applies to other forms of dramatic narrative, such as a play or modern novel. Bring a notebook! The series includes in-class writing exercises culled from several of the Now Write! books to help you get out of your own way, get creative juices flowing, and benefit your stories – whether a rewrite or starting from scratch. Each Soulful Screenwriting meeting begins with a brief guided meditation to get present. • Thieves made off with three paintings by Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse worth millions of euros from a museum near the city of Parma in northern Italy.
  • Jessica Sanchez seemed born to be a star. At 10, she took the leap from singing in her local Filipino grocery store, Seafood City, in San Diego onto the very first season of "America's Got Talent" — at 16, onto "American Idol." But as quickly as she rose, everything began to unravel.
  • President Trump announced a "Complete Rebuilding" of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. You asked: Who's going to pay for it? What will it turn into? And doesn't Congress have to approve?
  • Exhibit runs March 23 - April 25. The photo-based and sculptural works in the exhibition examine the history of urban development in Southern California. Working in Los Angeles, Jackie Castillo investigates the relationships between city infrastructure, collective memory and the isolation and anxiety felt by the working class. She documents architectural remnants that reveal the ways that place, labor, memories, and identity become fractured over time. Mónica Arreola approaches similar concerns from the perspective of her hometown, Tijuana. Trained as an architect, she photographs urban developments abandoned mid-construction, revealing the effects of the 2008 United States housing market crash and the financial crisis that reverberated across the border. We invite you to view this exhibition and join us for a reception on Wednesday, March 25, 4 – 7 p.m. Meet the artists and enjoy refreshments. San Diego Mesa College Gallery on Facebook / Instagram
