Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 4-hour brush making workshop! We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. You will hone your carving skills by adding curves and texture to your piece. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spoke shaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. We will also discuss design principles, functional applications, the properties of wood, and brush materials such as Tampico fibers. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a unique brush to be used in the home, the shop, or as a beautiful sculpture or gift. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. On Saturday, August 24th, 2025 Delightful Dolls of Southern CA will present a doll show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be many unique things at our show, from antique / vintage clothes, furniture, wigs, shoes, teddy bears, and, of course, artist dolls, antique dolls, vintage dolls, and all other types of doll-related merchandise for all interests. We will also have someone stringing dolls if you have a doll that needs restringing. We will also be having a raffle to contribute to children’s charities. Please join us and bring a doll or teddy to dress, and you will get a $1.00 discount from our $6.00 admission. Children under 12 are free with paying adults. Parking is extra. The Blazing Laptops Write-a-thon is THE big annual fundraiser for San Diego Writers, Ink (SDWI). On June 22, 2025, writers will write in person at Lestat’s Hillcrest from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Writers seek pledges from sponsors to help raise money for San Diego’s favorite literary arts organization. We provide the space and writing prompts for those who want them. All of our participants write the day away! Join us for an exciting and challenging kayaking adventure through Chula Vista’s coastal habitats, ending at the restored Chula Vista Wetlands! This guided tour takes you through dynamic waterways where you’ll have the chance to spot local wildlife, including birds, fish, and other coastal creatures. While we welcome participants of all skill levels, please be aware that the kayaking portion is fairly long and requires a bit of endurance. The wind can also pick up midway through the tour, making for a more challenging but rewarding experience. In this crochet workshop, students will learn the fundamental skills of crochet, including starting a project, basic stitches like single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch) magic circle, and tying off. This three-week course will allow students to learn and practice the basics in-studio, practice at home, and then return with their questions and learn more. No experience necessary. Students are welcome to bring their own yarn and/or hook, but it is not necessary. We will be using size 4 yarn and between 4.00mm and 6.00mm crochet hooks. You don’t have to bring your own supplies but you are welcome to. All materials included. Learn to needle felt! Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Experience the magic of wool and learn how to paint using needle felting techniques! In this 3-hour workshop, we will create a marine landscape by layering and felting wool, as well as blending colors together. The addition of yarns will add texture and hues to your creation. Ocean and sunset make wonderful subjects for needle paintings! This class requires the use of sharp needles and you will be provided with fingers guards. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome.
