  • Learn to Knit this Season! Saturdays, May 10, 17, 24, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. In this workshop series students will knit a hat, work with natural yarns and acquire life long skills. Students will expand their knitting basics including rib stitch, shaping, sewing and finishing techniques. Students bring their own knitting needles, 16” circular needles size 8/5.5 mm (wood or bamboo recommended) and size 8/5.5mm double pointed needles; worsted weight yarn, about 150 yds (wool or wool blend recommended), and a crochet hook, any size (for picking up dropped stitches). Hat pattern is provided. For ideas for purchasing yarn, a great local yarn store, Apricot Yarn, offers many worsted weight options, including Brooklyn Tween Shelter Yarn that works well for this class. Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of the knit and purl stitch required. Students will learn knitting basics including casting on, the knit and purl stitches, casting off, simple sewing and finishing techniques. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome. Students bring knitting needles, size 15 (10mm) (wood or bamboo recommended); bulky/chunky yarn, about 138 yds (wool or wool blend recommended), and a crochet hook, any size (for picking up dropped stitches). For ideas for purchasing yarn, a great local yarn store, Apricot Yarn, offers super bulky Malabrigo Yarn ‘Rasta’ that works well for this class.   • Learn the Art of Intarsia Woodworking! Saturday, May 10 or August 16, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 5-hour intarsia woodworking workshop! Intarsia is a woodworking technique that involves the use of varied shapes of wood to create an image or pattern. In this class, we will cover shop safety and how to use a scroll saw, as well as best practices for sanding and finishing. Students will choose from a template to transfer to their wood, creating a mosaic-like decorative wall piece. Template options will be provided, and may be altered and edited based on skill level. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with their own intarsia project. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron, but we have some for borrow if needed. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome.
