Composer and sound artist Sam Dunscombe surrounds audiences in an acousmonium–an immersive “loudspeaker orchestra” of more than two dozen custom-positioned speakers. First developed in the 1970s by the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris, the acousmonium was designed to project electroacoustic music in space—treating each speaker as an individual voice in a vast sonic field. Dunscombe’s hand-built system transforms the room into a living architecture of sound, where tones move, swirl, and morph depending on where you stand. The program features spectral soundscapes and textural explorations that invite audiences to walk, turn, and listen from multiple perspectives, making each seat a unique vantage point. Not many people get to realize their early dreams. Dave Nachmanoff has toured the world, both on his own, and as the guitarist and opening act for Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat”, “Time Passages”), at venues as far ranging as the Royal Albert Hall in London, to The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. From performing with folk legend Elizabeth “Libba” Cotten at the age of nine, to playing in a rock band with his two brothers, Dave went on to earn a PhD in Philosophy at UC Davis and slowly built a grassroots following touring all over the world. In addition, he writes and records custom songs for clients and uses his recording studio to produce other artists. For this special show, he will be joined by Mike Lindauer on bass and vocals and Nick Carvajal on drums and vocals. Local musician, Omar Musisko, will be opening for Dave Nachmanoff. Two-time San Diego Music Award nominee (with The Peripherals and The Spiritual Motels) Omar Musisko crafts genre-bending, eclectic indie-folk music that weaves vulnerability and dark humor into poetic songs that search for beauty in the hurt. Bodhi Tree Concerts presents world premiere of a bilingual Spanish/English chamber opera, "Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote," by Pulitzer Prize-winning, GRAMMY-nominated, Opera Hall of Fame and Metropolitan Opera composer, San Diego’s own Anthony Davis, with a libretto by playwright and UCSD professor Allan Havis and Spanish text by Laura Fuentes. "Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote" is based on the children’s book of the same name by award-winning Mexican-American author and illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh. An allegorical tale, "Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote" brings to light the hardship and struggles facing families who seek to make better lives for themselves by crossing the border. A young rabbit named Pancho, whose Papá travels north to find work and to earn money for his family, finds himself on a long journey. When Papá does not return as expected, young Pancho sets out on an adventure to find him.
