As a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and a pioneer of Chicago’s explosive West Side sound, Buddy Guy remains a guiding force for generations of rock and blues legends. The nine-time Grammy winner has also earned a Lifetime Achievement Grammy, 38 Blues Music Awards, the Billboard Century Award, the Presidential National Medal of Arts, and the Kennedy Center Honor. Rolling Stone ranks him #23 on its list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” underscoring his unmatched impact on modern music. Born in 1936 to a sharecropper’s family in rural Louisiana, Guy arrived in Chicago in 1957 and went on to reshape the sound of the electric guitar through groundbreaking work with Chess Records and influential recordings of his own. Poets Underground Presents CV Slam Fest ’26: A Powerful Fusion of Poetry, Hip-Hop, and Community in Chula Vista CHULA VISTA, CA — April 25, 2026 | 12 p.m. | Memorial Park Bowl Amphitheater Poets Underground will present CV Slam Fest ’26, a dynamic, free, all-ages cultural event uniting spoken word, hip-hop, youth expression, and community storytelling. Taking place at the Memorial Park Bowl Amphitheater, the festival highlights the region’s creative voice through a multigenerational lineup of performers, educators, and artists. Headlining the event are renowned hip-hop artists Eligh and Scarub of the influential collective Living Legends. The duo will open the festival with a live performance, setting the tone for a full day of competition and artistic showcase. Central to the event is a high-stakes poetry slam competition featuring 12 poets competing for a $1,000 cash prize. Participants represent three divisions—Rookies (first-time competitors), Veterans (previous slam champions), and CV Locals—ensuring a diverse range of voices and perspectives. This event marks the launch of the Daylight Culture Club, a new series of arts and culture gatherings designed to bring people together to learn, create and connect. Each event will feature conversations with artists, cultural leaders or creatives, along with time for participants to make art together in a welcoming, community-centered space. Following the panel discussion, guests will be invited to stay and craft in community. Some craft supplies will be provided, and attendees are also encouraged to bring their own projects — whether that’s knitting, drawing, collage, embroidery or another creative practice — and work alongside others. Daylight will hold the event at Doh Doh Coffee, a small business run by Karen refugees, where art created by and for their community is featured.
