For nearly five decades, college football’s Holiday Bowl has called San Diego home. But never before has the game taken place after New Year's Eve.

On Saturday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m., internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist and peace advocate Sacha Boutros will debut "Paris After Dark" at the Baker-Baum Concert Hall, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. The concert launches the new "Music Without Borders" series with an evening that celebrates 100 years of French and American music. Audiences will be transported from La Jolla to the heart of Paris through a repertoire spanning jazz, chanson, and international pop, from Cole Porter to Serge Gainsbourg. Boutros will be joined by Parisian trumpet legend Stéphane Belmondo and an ensemble of world-class musicians for this special CD release concert. “This concert is a love letter to Paris and to humanity,” says Boutros. “In a time when the world feels divided, music reminds us we share a common language, one that heals and unites.” Through her nonprofit, Sacha’s Supper Club, Boutros turns concerts like "Paris After Dark" into fundraisers that directly support music education in Barrio Logan, San Ysidro, and Tijuana. This mission reflects a family legacy of cultural service, inspired by her grandmother Lupe Cázares, founder of San Ysidro Health Centers. Join us for a creative-critical exploration of Yiddish poetry, where language, history and the imagination meet. We will study the works of great poets, and take inspiration from them to create new works. Our journey will take us through traditional verse as well as avant-garde experimentation, covering sound poetry, Oulipo constraints and multilingual wordplay. This course is designed for students who have already studied Yiddish for a term (or equivalent), and for speakers who can read and understand basic Yiddish, but it can be enjoyed by speakers of all levels looking to grow their Yiddish creativity. By the end of the six-week course, students will have a deeper appreciation for poetic craft in Yiddish, and develop a poem of their own. All materials will be provided by the instructor. He has studied Yiddish at University College London, and courses in Tel Aviv, Berlin and Paris. He has led Yiddish poetry courses online for Babel’s Blessing Language School and in-person workshops at the Shtetl Berlin Festival, the Maison de la Culture Yiddish and the Yiddish Sof-Vokh UK, which he also helps to organise. He teaches at the summer programme ‘Ot Azoy’ and recently completed a pedagogy fellowship at the Yiddish Book Center (Amherst, MA).
