Deadlines for entry are approaching for the 2026 San Diego County Fair’s expansive competitive exhibits program — a beloved tradition that invites community members of all ages to showcase their talent, creativity and craftsmanship. With dozens of opportunities spanning arts, crafts, culinary creations and agricultural achievements, the San Diego County Fair celebrates and rewards the remarkable work being done throughout our region. Competitors have the chance to earn awards, cash prizes and, of course, those iconic blue ribbons. At the heart of the Fair experience, these competitions transform everyday hobbies into extraordinary exhibits. They celebrate the passion and skill found throughout San Diego County — honoring first-time entrants, seasoned competitors, students, professionals and families alike. This year’s theme, “Once Upon a Fair,” celebrates storytelling in all its forms — and every entry tells a story. A quilt stitched over months. A photograph captured in a fleeting moment. A perfectly preserved jar of summer fruit. A student’s first award-winning painting. Each competition entry becomes part of the larger story that unfolds across the Fairgrounds each summer. Participants enjoy more than just the thrill of competition. Entrants receive free Fair admission, valuable feedback from experienced judges, opportunities to connect with others in their field, and the chance to see their work displayed in museum-quality exhibits viewed by hundreds of thousands of Fairgoers. The 2026 San Diego County Fair runs for 20 days from Wednesday, June 10 through Sunday, July 5 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. ArtReach San Diego’s After School Art Classes provide students with an inspiring, professional studio experience. Voted Best Art Classes for Kids in San Diego Magazine’s Best of 2025, our 6-week programs cultivate creative confidence, social-emotional growth, and technical skills through hands-on projects led by practicing artists. In our Painting class, students will learn the fundamentals of color mixing, brushwork, and composition while experimenting with a variety of painting mediums, including acrylic, watercolor, and tempera. Through sequential projects, they build and refine their techniques, explore personal expression and visual storytelling, and present their completed work in a final showcase for family and peers. The California Center for the Arts, Escondido, in collaboration with Persian Place, presents Nowruz – Persian New Year, marking the arrival of spring and the beginning of the new year in Persian culture. Observed for more than 3,000 years across diverse regions and communities, Nowruz remains a time of renewal, reflection, and connection. This gathering reflects a shared commitment to honoring cultural traditions that continue to hold deep meaning for our local community. While many Persian organizations across the United States have paused public programs in response to the current situation in Iran, the Center and Persian Place believe it is important to sustain spaces where heritage, artistic expression, and community can be experienced together. The afternoon will feature live performances, a Women’s Artisan Market, arts and crafts, a kids exhibition, food, music, and free admission to the public opening of the new exhibition, "Maryam Bayat: Unrolling Paradise."
