For 29 years Rady Children's Hospital-SD Ice Rink has been providing seasonal outdoor family fun for San Diego. It started with a vision to bring an outdoor ice rink to San Diego and raise money for kids with cancer. In partnership with Rady Children's Health San Diego Auxiliary, ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station and San Diego Ice Arena we are able to provide this event each year. Join us for an evening with renowned artist Nick Cave, whose multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installation, performance, and video. Best known for his celebrated Soundsuits, elaborate full-body sculptures that merge art, fashion, and social commentary, Cave creates work that speaks to issues of identity, race, and healing. His work "Rescue," from the Museum’s permanent collection, is currently on view in the Art of the Americas galleries, offering audiences a chance to experience his practice firsthand. The program will begin with a talk by the artist reflecting on his body of work, followed by a conversation-style interview and an audience Q&A. "Miracle", the original holiday-themed pop-up cocktail bar concept, is thrilled to return for the 2025 season. Featuring festive original cocktails, over-the-top decorations, and exciting new mug designs to bring the holiday season to life, this year promises to be one of the best yet. "Sippin’ Santa," created by Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, is the tropical offshoot of the famed Miracle pop up bar, the original holiday cocktail bar concept. As in year’s past, the famed mugs and glassware will be available for purchase at all participating bars nationwide. Kicking off November through January, "Miracle" locations in Temecula, Solvang, San Diego, Hermosa Beach, Los Angeles, and Anaheim will feature a holiday oasis with over the top kitschy, festive décor and a themed cocktail menu with fan favorites such as the "Christmapolitan" and "Snowball Old-Fashioned." Join Museum educators in creating a mixed media art work. Drawing inspiration from the beautiful and meaningful art work of Nick Cave, create your own mixed media piece of art using found objects. Please join us! No reservation is required. All materials are provided. Great for artists of all ages. Join us for Without Words: Moving through the Holidays, guided by The Elizabeth Hospice Grief Counselor Maggie Miller on Saturday, Dec 6 from 1–2:30 p.m., at Expressive Arts @ 32nd & Thorn in North Park. During this compassionate gathering, we will honor grief and loss during the holiday season, and experience how creativity and gentle movement can be tools for healing. This workshop is free of charge, open to everyone, and can be taken on its own or as part of the full Without Words series on the first Saturday of every month.
