  • Laissez les bons temps rouler! Gator By The Bay returns to the San Diego Bay for four days of “Mardi Gras in May,” bringing the music, flavors and joyful spirit of Louisiana to the West Coast. The good times start early with a free Thursday kickoff party at 5 p.m., featuring an acoustic music jam, dancing, food trucks, beverages and a special meet-and-greet with GRAMMY-winning musician Wilson Savoy. Enjoy 100+ live performances across seven stages, dance to Zydeco, Cajun and blues bands, and dig into authentic Creole favorites—including 10,000 pounds of crawfish trucked in straight from Louisiana. Take a spin on the dance floor with free lessons at the Bon Temps Social Club Dance Pavilion, watch chefs cook up Southern classics at the Taste of Louisiana Cooking Pavilion, and browse the colorful Mardi Gras Market for art, music and festive finds. Contra is a living American tradition, with new dances being written. All are welcome! Gender-neutral dance roles. Wear what you like, with comfortable shoes. A caller teaches and directs each dance. Pairs progress up and down two facing lines.   • For over 40 years, the Student Nutrition Organization (SNO) of San Diego State University has served the local community through volunteering, advocacy, and philanthropy. We have strived for our members to develop strong professional and community relationships, and this gala is how we give back to our community locally and nationally. This year’s gala will benefit Mama’s Kitchen, supporting initiatives toward improving the health and well-being of individuals and families vulnerable to malnutrition from chronic illness. This year, the 12th Annual Josephson-Spindler SNO Gala will take place at The Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center on SDSU’s campus. Against a backdrop of Old Hollywood Glam, we will gather in support of our shared commitment to nutrition, sustainability, and community impact.Guests are encouraged to embrace the theme with semi-formal attire, with ties and gala dresses welcomed to enhance the evening’s timeless elegance. The evening will feature a fundraising silent auction with exclusive items and experiences, a curated dinner menu with locally sourced seasonal ingredients, an open bar with our signature drinks, and more engaging entertainment with a dynamic master of ceremonies. Fundraised proceeds from this event will go directly to Mama’s Kitchen as our intended beneficiary. SNO is very proud to support such an impactful cause. We are also honored to announce that our keynote speaker this evening will be Dr. James Sallis. James F. Sallis, Ph.D. is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health at University of California San Diego and Professorial Fellow at Australian Catholic University, Melbourne. He taught for 22 years at San Diego State University. He has led research to understand policy and environmental influences on physical activity, nutrition, and obesity, with studies conducted across all age groups in the US. Dr. Sallis is co-founder of the International Physical Activity and Environment Network (IPEN) that conducted coordinated studies of adults and adolescents in about 20 countries. He has authored over 850 scientific publications and is one of the world’s most cited authors in any field, with over 250,000 citations. He is currently focusing on getting research used to create active, healthy, and sustainable cities. Dr. Sallis is Past-President of Society of Behavioral Medicine, member of the US National Academy of Medicine, and has won numerous national and international awards. Dr. Sallis will be presenting to the audience on the topic of “Environments Shape Eating Behaviors, But We Can Shape Those Environments”. The presentation aims to shed light on the dynamic relationship between our environment and nutrition. Registered Dietitians may earn CEUs through this event. Overall, the gala intends to offer a lively and engaging opportunity for nutrition advocates to connect, have fun, and support a meaningful cause in a vibrant and welcoming space.
