An eclectic collective of 19 artists embody the unifying theme “Better Together” in a contemporary fine art exhibition (Thumbprint Gallery) from July 3 - August 1, 2026. Free Opening Reception: Friday, July 3, 4-9 p.m. The month-long “Better Together” art exhibition presented by Thumbprint Gallery is guest curated by San Diego based artist Lourans Mikhail. Mikhail, who was born in Baghdad, Iraq and raised in Chicago, Illinois, hand-picked artists from San Diego, Los Angeles and across the country to animate the exhibition theme. “My vision was for people to feel inspired when they experience the numerous ways in which artists exemplify the value of togetherness,” explained Mikhail. Curator Lourans Mikhail is a painter, sculptor, and graphic designer, who spent 13 years as a US Marine. His own work is inspired by his Assyrian heritage, graffiti, comics, anime, cartoons, and fine art. In his art, Mikhail uses diverse media to explore different perspectives and challenge the narratives of socioeconomics, culture, politics, and race. “Being a curator of this exhibition is another way I get to draw on what I’ve experienced in life as an immigrant, a veteran, as a father…but this way I’m doing so through the most creative people I know.” The “Better Together” exhibition is on display at Thumbprint Gallery from July 3 to August 1 from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. ArtWalk is back at Liberty Station for its 21st year, bringing a weekend-long celebration of arts and culture to the Arts District Liberty Station, July 31 through August 2. The festival celebrates creativity from both sides of the border, with more than 175 artists coming from across several states and Mexico to show and sell their artwork, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramics, jewelry, and sculpture. For families, there will also be a KidsWalk with a variety of hands-on art activities and experiences. In addition to exploring a variety of artists, guests can partake in the “Paint the Day at the Beach,” an interactive, artist-led activation that invites ArtWalk attendees to collaboratively bring a joyful coastal scene to life. The activation features large-scale, aerial-view coastal artworks, created by Artist Sarah Honaker, using textured and dimensional elements inspired by a day at the beach. ArtWalk Liberty Station offers a fabulous outdoor setting, with an abundance of free parking. The festival has a perimeter fence, even though admission is free; the fence allows attendees to enjoy beer and wine (for those 21 years and over), while strolling around the event, rather than having to remain in a beer garden. Guests are asked to show their ID to receive a wristband to be able to purchase alcoholic beverages. This fine art show is part of the ArtWalk San Diego brand known for bringing together all facets of the arts throughout San Diego, while promoting the experience of owning original art. Thursday, August 20: Book signing and talk with Amy Forsythe at 5 p.m. Forsythe is an award-winning military photojournalist who served as a U.S. Marine and recently retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Public Affairs Officer. She’s the author of “Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines” which started as a passion project to showcase the memorials and markers on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton which turned into a collaborative work of art that honors our fallen Marines of the post-9/11 generation. Amy Forsythe began her career as an enlisted military journalist in the U.S. Marine Corps and is currently serves as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Her career has included five combat deployments and several other overseas assignments.
