  • Teens explore design & woodworking with a focus on chairs! Monday through Friday June 15 – 19, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Ages 13+ years welcome! This week of Summer Camp is all about designing chairs for every body! The Craft Collective welcomes teens for a week of chair design, building, and design exploration. Why are most chairs the same size? We’ll talk about how chairs can be made for every BODY and how comfort and designs affect our bodies. We’ll be sketching designs with pencil to paper and then we’ll move into model making and prototypes of chairs. Along the way, we’ll talk about the basics of how a chair is built, the various forces, and how failures can happen when not built properly. We’ll do mock-ups with plywood to refine our designs. Depending on how many design iterations each chairmaker goes through, by the end of the week, they’ll have some fun designs, models, lots of knowledge, and hopefully built chairs to show for it. Machine and tool safety is a big part of this camp. It is intended for teens with a keen interest in woodworking, design, or making chairs. Cell phones will be put away during this camp. Teens must be at least 13 years old to participate, since we’ll be using big machines in addition to hand tools. Sorry, no adults allowed. This camp is for teens, ages 13-17 years. No experience needed. All materials included. • Military, first responders and sibling discounts • Scholarships available San Diego Craft Collective on Facebook / Instagram

  • Adapted from Sunil Gangopadhyay’s celebrated 1968 novel, "Days and Nights in the Forest" is one of director Satyajit Ray’s greatest achievements, a modern search for connection that conjures the timeless resonance of a folktale. Desperate to flee Calcutta’s rat race, four friends—Ashim (Soumitra Chatterjee), Sanjoy (Subhendu Chatterjee), Hari (Samit Bhanja), and Shekhar (Rabi Ghosh)—drive to Palamu, one of India’s rural “tribal lands,” where they bribe a watchman into letting them stay at a sylvan guesthouse. Despite vowing to get away from it all, the crew soon mixes with the locals, including a woodland family: the soulful yet mischievous Aparna (Sharmila Tagore) takes to the overconfident Ashim, while her widowed sister-in-law Jaya (Kaberi Bose) grows closer to the bookish Sanjoy. At the same time, Hari, fresh off a break-up, woos a Santal girl named Duli (Simi Garewal); and Shekhar, despite his own penchant for gambling, tries to rein in his companions’ boozy hedonism. Filled with some of Ray’s most indelible characterizations and lavish images (shot by longtime cinematographer Soumendu Roy), "Days and Nights in the Forest" touches on masculine vulnerabilities and Indian class divisions with the graceful complexity of a master at his peak. Restored in 4K in 2025 by The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project and Film Heritage Foundation in collaboration with Janus Films – The Criterion Collection at L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory, from the original camera and sound negatives provided by Purnima Dutta and the magnetic track preserved by BFI National Archive. • HOSPITAL shows the daily activities of a large urban hospital with the emphasis on the emergency ward and outpatient clinics. The cases depicted illustrate how medical expertise, availability of resources, organizational considerations, and the nature of communication among the staff and patients affect the delivery of appropriate health care. The film plays as part of Digital Gym Cinema's year-long retrospective "This is America at 250: Frederick Wiseman." honoring the enduring legacy of the late, great filmmaker Frederick Wiseman. "It is as open and revealing as filmed experience has ever been. You look misery in the eye and you realize there’s nothing to be afraid of… By the end we are so thoroughly involved… that tears well up, because we simply have no other means of responding to the intensity of this plain view of the ordinary activities in Metropolitan Hospital." –Pauline Kael, The New Yorker "The chief characteristic of all Wiseman’s films — and the source of their tremendous emotional impact — is his instinctive sympathy for people who must confront the specific, human effects of vast, impersonal human social forces…" –Richard Schickel, Life Digital Gym Cinema on Facebook / Instagram
