  • On Friday, August 29, Songwriter Sanctuary is proud to feature three original acts in the round: Lexi Pulido, Claire King, and Hailey Wetzel. The event is hosted by the legendary Jeff Berkley in partnership with Normal Heights United. (4650 Mansfield St. Suggested Donation $10. All ages. Doors 6:30 p.m., Music 7 p.m.) With four shows left in the 2025 season, it’s not too late to discover what has become one of San Diego’s greatest listening room experiences! About the Artists Lexi Pulido is a boundary-pushing vocalist, composer, guitarist, teacher, and more - known for blending experimental jazz, bossa nova, and theatrical alt-pop. Through projects like the avant-jazz quintet Kilikili, the internationally acclaimed Kate Bush tribute band Baby Bushka, and the genre-blurring Nu Moods jam series, she’s helped shape San Diego’s creative music scene while fostering community through her studio space, Tenam Studio. Hailey Wetzel is a folky, soulful, and jazz-tinged songwriter whose music blends heartfelt storytelling with rich, timeless melodies. Inspired by artists like Alice Phoebe Lou, Olivia Dean, and Maggie Rogers, her sound carries an honest warmth and rhythmic ease. After a cross-country move, she’s spent the past two years rooted in San Diego, becoming an active voice in the local music community. With a voice that feels both intimate and expansive, Hailey crafts songs that linger—emotive, melodic, and deeply human. Claire King is a San Diego based singer-songwriter and spoken word performer whose music draws influence from the folk revival of the 1960s and 70s, indie folk, jazz, and soul. Her sound is infused with the characteristics of artists like Jim Croce, Labbi Siffre, the Fleet Foxes, and Norah Jones. With poetic and whimsical lyrics, much of Claire’s music centers around her connection to nature, architecture, and personal experiences in love and mental health. • The Town Hall CA48 Deserves — Even If Darrell Issa Won’t Show Up Join Indivisible North County San Diego and our powerful coalition of regional grassroots groups for a dynamic, people-powered congressional town hall—the kind Representative Darrell Issa refuses to hold. In 2025, many Republican House members—including Issa—are dodging public accountability. They’re avoiding traditional town halls because they don’t want to answer tough questions about their voting records, their ties to extremist policies, and their refusal to represent the will of their constituents. But we believe democracy demands better. That’s why Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) is stepping up and standing in. In a bold act of solidarity, she’s agreed to take questions from CA48 residents, speak directly to the issues impacting our community, and help strategize ways we can pressure Darrell Issa to do his job—or get out of the way. Have something to say? Submit your questions in advance for Rep. Jacobs. Submit your questions here. Want to make change? Show up, speak out, and stand together. This event will fill up fast. Reserve your spot today—because representation isn’t optional.
