Dr. Gideon Rappaport will discuss his book "Shakespeare's Rhetorical Figures: An Outline." When Shakespeare began writing for the stage, he had already mastered over two hundred rhetorical figures inherited from the long tradition of the language arts--grammar, logic, and rhetoric--stretching from Aristotle to his own time. These figures, which to us may appear merely decorative, were for Shakespeare the very medium of speech, and as his art developed, his figures became more and more subtly expressive of meaning. A new cultural tradition is coming to East County! On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Downtown El Cajon will debut Artivál, East San Diego County’s first-ever arts festival. The free, open-air celebration brings together local creatives, musicians, food and drink vendors, and the community to highlight the city’s cultural identity. Held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the heart of Downtown El Cajon at Main & Magnolia, the free festival kicks off the summer season with a vibrant showcase of more than 50 artists and makers, interactive installations, live music, and gourmet food trucks. For those 21 and up, East County Arts Association has curated a ticketed Wine & Beer Garden experience that adds an elevated experience with tastings from local wineries, craft brew, and beverage brands. Artivál’s mission is clear – to transform Downtown El Cajon’s public spaces into a living canvas, spark cultural dialogue, and create lasting access to the arts in a part of San Diego that’s long been underserved by creative programming. His poems and other writings are capture in the 2025 release of his book "Sulyap ng Kadakilaan," glimpse of greatness. PART II. Bryan Pangilinan a graduate of Morse High School and UCSD will share his journey of the arts experience which led him to the Bay Area. His Filipino formation was impacted by the community which included PASACAT and continued his love of culture in various groups after leaving San Diego.
