  • Paul Simon is coming to The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park! The legendary singer-songwriter has announced plans for a US and Canada summer tour as he extends his "A Quiet Celebration Tour," following a highly successful and critically acclaimed US tour last year. The experience was so encouraging that Simon was inspired to expand and play in some of the best outdoor summer venues in North America.  The show will be in two parts, opening with the performance of the Grammy-nominated masterpiece Seven Psalms. This beautiful 33-minute continuous piece of music was heralded by the press worldwide – Variety called it "Quietly stunning...unlike any other Simon album" and Rock Cellar hailed it as “a stunning achievement from an artist with a career full of them.” After a brief intermission, the show will resume with Simon performing many of his greatest hits and many deep cuts celebrating the breadth of his career.  The tour will begin on June 4 in Palo Alto, CA with dates at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, Tanglewood in Lenox, MA, Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills, NY and ending at Ravinia in Highland Park, IL July 18. The band will include: Edie Brickell (vocals), Mark Stewart (guitar), Bakithi Kumalo (bass), Andy Snitzer (saxophone), Jamey Haddad (percussion), Mick Rossi (piano, keys), Gyan Riley (guitar), Matt Chamberlin (drums), Nancy Stagnitta (flute), Caleb Burhans (viola) and Eugene Friesen (cello).  Please note: This is a rental event of The Rady Shell, presented by AEG Touring / Goldenvoice.   • A salsa takeover is coming to the North City district in San Marcos this April as their “Dancing in the Street” series returns, bringing a free outdoor dance night held alongside its popular weekly Farmers Market. This month’s featured style is salsa on April 24, bringing upbeat Latin rhythms, quick footwork, and a lively social dance floor, all led by the professional dancers of Bella Lux Entertainment. The evening begins with a special performance from 6 to 6:15 p.m., setting the tone before the crowd is invited to learn the moves themselves during a guided dance class from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. The night wraps up with open dancing and a live DJ from 7:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. Between sets, guests can explore the farmers market, stop by North City’s eateries for sips and bites, and make their way back to the dance floor throughout the evening. This year’s honoree, Dr. Sonia Ancoli-Israel, is a world-renowned leader in sleep and circadian rhythm research. Her work has significantly advanced our understanding of sleep disorders, aging, and cancer, with meaningful improvements in patient care. Her record of scientific excellence, mentorship and dedication to advancing research reflects the core values and mission of ARCS Foundation, making her a highly deserving honoree. Dr. Ancoli-Israel is a Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Professor of Research at the UC San Diego School of Medicine. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, a Master’s Degree from California State University, Long Beach and a PhD in Psychology from the University of California, San Francisco.
