The San Dieguito Art Guild presents its 12th annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive (corner of Encinitas Blvd and Balour), Encinitas. The Guild is a 200-member all-volunteer nonprofit organization that operates the Off Track Gallery located in the Lumberyard Shopping Center in Encinitas. The Guild does incredible work in promoting and supporting local artists in the Encinitas area. Karen Fidel, one of the event organizers, says, “This event gives local artists a venue to offer their hand-made items to the public. Our customers are presented with unique and original creations directly from the artists themselves, which adds a personal touch to each purchase.” Linda Melvin, a local artist and member of the San Dieguito Art Guild, shares her excitement about the Holiday Bazaar, saying, “I look forward to this event every year. It’s a great opportunity for artists like me to showcase our work and connect with the community. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.” There will be a Silent Auction of artworks donated by the participating artists. Grace Swanson, gourd artist says, “Our artwork is special because it is from all local artists and often of local scenes. Our Bazaar features really special deals on silent auction items where the proceeds help support our Off Track Gallery.” Each of the participating artists have a real passion for their craft and it shows. If you are looking for a unique gift or just decide to treat yourself, this Bazaar is the place you will find it. Come enjoy yummy treats, a silent auction, and art for sale by artists: paintings, jewelry, photography, glass, ceramics, mosaics, fiber art, gourd art, cards, prints, journals, holiday napkins, table runners, wall hangings, and more. Be sure to stop by the T.E.R.i booth filled with delightful artwork produced by their clients. The T.E.R.i Fine Arts Program fosters a positive impact by creating an inclusive space where individuals with disabilities can thrive and develop their artistic abilities. The first 100 customers who purchase $100 or more from the Bazaar artists will get a free small rooted succulent. • Sparks Gallery is pleased to show new work by bi-coastal artist Monty Montgomery in his solo exhibition, “Intersection”. Profoundly affected by his upbringing in the rural woods of Virginia’s countryside, Monty Montgomery’s work has always been informed by his visceral and emotional reactions to everyday experiences, such as exploring nature, or trekking city streets. His distinctive artistic voice was shaped in his teen years, when he began expressing his perception of the external world in bright geometric abstraction. His characteristic style emerged as a result of distilling sensory input through the lens of urban and natural landscapes. Using color theory, mathematics, and intuition, he attempts to harmonize the collision of these elements into something beautiful and cohesive. Montgomery uses his innate intuition for color and object relationships to connect with the viewer, sharing his artistic vision through a “visual-emotional language”, as he calls it. His interpretation of everyday scenes is often surprising, as the end results look vastly different than their real world counterparts. This unique perspective grants Montgomery both strength and vulnerability in his art practice. For more information visit: sparksgallery.com Stay Connected on Facebook / Instagram
  • Explore the sense of touch through artworks that generate a sensory experience, and consider how these works exist within the confines of an art museum where touch is not encouraged. Then, we will guide you through creating a tactile piece and learn the basics of casting. We will draw inspiration from Kelly Akashi’s "Cultivator" (2021), which highlights her interest in fluid, impressionable materials and old-world craft techniques, and Robert Irwin’s "1°2°3°4°" (1997), which uniquely engages many senses at once. "Reflections" is an art-making workshop series designed to serve adults 55 and older. Session 4: December 1 & December 8 In this workshop series participants will explore how ideas about the body integrate into contemporary art. Through close looking, we will engage with artworks where the body is present, and where its notable absence invokes the body. Each workshop will include an investigation of contemporary art-making techniques and materials. No prior art experience is required. Transportation will be provided, if required. Participants may join one session (two days) or more!
