  • After a two-year hiatus, the Spreckels Organ Society, a non-profit organization curating concerts and performances in the heart of Balboa Park, on the historic Spreckels Organ, is proud to announce the return of its the very popular Insider’s Tour. The tour enables organ fans to take a very rare “close up” look at the inner workings of the largest open air musical instrument in the world. Included in this tour is an opportunity to enter the organ’s Wind Chest —the “Heartbeat of the Organ”— where very few people are allowed into this pressurized vault portion of the instrument. Organ Curator Dale Sorenson will welcome guests and present a brief seminar on exactly how the organ operates. A continental style breakfast will be provided. Guests will then be treated to a private performance on the instrument by San Diego Civic Organist Raul Prieto Ramirez. Finally, guests will then be ushered on tours inside the organ itself to see up-close the more than 5,000 pipes that make up this amazing instrument. Then, they will be allowed to enter the pressurized Wind Chest where Sorenson will provide a unique insight rarely seen by the public.
