As part of national cancer survivorship celebrations in June, Scripps Cancer Center will host a free, virtual cancer survivors support group on June 9 for anyone adjusting to life after cancer treatment. It is intended for people who have completed cancer treatments for stage 0 to stage 3 diagnoses. Whether you're feeling strong, uncertain, hopeful, anxious, or all of the above, this group is focused on helping cancer survivors move forward by building new routines, finding purpose and connecting with others who truly understand. "BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions" is adapted from a video art installation by Kahlil Joseph. The work is presented as a cinematic experience structured to resemble the sonic qualities of a record album. It combines fictional and historical elements in an immersive format that features fictionalized portrayals of W. E. B. Du Bois and Marcus Garvey, alongside appearances by artists, musicians, members of Joseph's family, and material drawn from Twitter chats, collectively forming a vision centered on Black consciousness. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Kahlil Joseph (Director), Onye Anyanwu (Producer), King Britt (Prof. of Music), and Brian Cross (Prof. of Visual Arts), 6:30 - 8 p.m. Co-Presented by the Department of Visual Arts and IDEAS at UC San Diego.

This exciting score, taken from the Tolkien films, includes 85 instrumentalists, 100 singers, soloists and children’s chorus. The music of "The Lord of the Rings" creates a new and dramatic live concert experience, led by Guest Conductor James Beauton of San Francisco. "The Fellowship of the Ring," composed by Howard Shore, won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2001. The score incorporates unusual percussion instruments, including Japanese taiko drums, metal bell plates and chains beaten upon piano wires to depict the mythical creatures called Orcs.
