  • For over 10 years, the Sierra Club Seal Society (SCSS) has wanted a large sculpture of a sea lion statue to be created and placed in a prominent area for all San Diegans to see. Sergey Gornushkin, President of the SD Sculptors Guild in Balboa Park, is now doing just that. My son, a friend of Sergey, initiated this wonderful event by asking him to design the statue. We are having a free commemorative event on August 29 to celebrate the unveiling of Sergey’s 7-foot long, 6-foot-high statue. It will be held in Balboa Park, by Spanish Village, Studio 36 on Saturday, August 29 from 4 - 8 p.m. There will be several speakers starting at 4 pm. Food and drinks will be served and there will be a band and DJ to dance to. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026 a Spanish Viliage, Studio 36 from 4-8 p.m.
