Up to SPED, Inc. is a new San Diego based nonprofit offering special education information and services to families. We are hosting a Free Back-to-School Meet & Greet at the Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library. It's a family-friendly community event designed to help parents of special needs students prepare for a successful year ahead. The nonprofit, The Music Company (TMC), celebrates its three-year anniversary of expanding music career pathways in San Diego with a new monthly series, Women in Music SD, supporting female artists, producers, DJs, and songwriters. Launching on Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m., the event series will feature conversations and collaborations around navigating today’s music industry and will continue to take place on the 4th Thursday of each month in 2026. TMC’s mission is to nurture the next generation of music talent by providing vital resources that are often inaccessible to independent and emerging artists. Through affordable, professional-grade recording and rehearsal spaces, the organization fosters collaboration among musicians, producers, and industry professionals. In 2025, TMC supported 441 artists across more than 1,200 studio bookings, spanning recording sessions, rehearsals, DJ practice, and creative production. Learn Block Printing on Fabric! Thursday, July 16, 6-8:30 p.m. Learn the process of block printing on fabric in this beginner-friendly 2.5 hour workshop! Led by local-artist and printmaker Kasey Leung, you’ll be guided step-by-step through designing, carving, and hand-printing your very own original block. Use it to create a custom tote bag or tea towel in class – perfect for everyday use or a thoughtful handmade gift. We’ll explore simple pattern-building and placement techniques to help bring your design to life on fabric. The emphasis is on process over perfection, with plenty of room to experiment and enjoy making with your hands. No experience needed and all materials are provided. Feel free to come to class with ideas, inspiration, or printed reference images for printing – just keep in mind that your design will need to fit within a 4×6 inch block. You’ll leave with a finished textile piece and your carved block to take home, so you can keep printing and creating long after the workshops ends! Please note there is a materials fee of $5 paid directly to the instructor at the beginning of class. “Edgeless: In the Expanded Field of Painting” brings together four Southern California-based painters whose process incorporates a blend of traditional and nontraditional media as both material and surface. In this exhibition, artists cut, stitch, burn, dye and fire their materials, creating the suggestion of a painting, while also incorporating strategies of sculpture, installation, or performance to work inseparably alongside the act of painting. The exhibition is curated by Jacqueline Marino.
