Learn to needle felt! Saturday, September 26, from 1-5 p.m. Beginners welcome! Ages 10+years! Create a beautiful wool “painting” using the forgiving technique of 2D needle felting, taught by artist Valerie Hebert. Using a barbed needle and loose wool fiber, you’ll learn how to transfer a drawing onto wool and “color it in” with an array of vibrant fibers. This meditative art process is wonderfully absorbing, and Valerie will guide you through each technique step‑by‑step. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own finished masterpiece. Discover the Japanese art of Kinusaiga, a beautiful fabric technique that transforms colorful scraps of cloth into a stunning work of art—all without a needle or thread. In this 3‑hour, beginner‑friendly workshop, you’ll explore color and texture as you design your own decorative fabric mosaic. You’ll be guided step‑by‑step through sketching your picture and then using a simple method of tucking fabric into grooves to bring your design to life, one vibrant piece at a time. Kinusaiga is wonderfully relaxing and surprisingly addictive—a chance to slow down, get creative, and enjoy the deeply satisfying process of making something by hand. All materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own fabric scraps (even tiny ones)—including cherished pieces of clothing or meaningful textiles you’d like to repurpose into your artwork. Each student will create an 8×8” project to take home. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome.
